ASME
Association for the Study of Medical Education: ASME is a membership organisation and doctors and medical educators from any specialty and level are invited to join. ASME is unique in that it draws its members from all areas of medical education - undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing - and from all specialties. It has a function as a forum for debate and exchange of information, and is building on its contacts in medicine and teaching in the UK and among other networks, to promote knowledge and expertise in medical education.

AAMC
The Association of American Medical Colleges is a non-profit association founded in 1876 to work for reform in medical education. Originally representing only medical schools, the AAMC represents the nation's 126 accredited medical schools, nearly 400 major teaching hospitals, more than 105,000 faculty in 98 academic and scientific societies, and the nation's 66,000 medical students and 97,000 residents. Additionally, the administrative leadership of medical schools and teaching hospitals are served by a variety of professional development groups housed within the AAMC.

SDRME
The Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education (SDRME) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of education in medical schools. It is composed of directors of units with responsibility for educational research, evaluation, and program development. The Society promotes: (a) research in medical education, (b) collaboration among its members and with other organizations, (c) professional development for its members and (d) the development of research units in medical education. The Society is an advocate for education research and development in medicine and seeks to influence national research policy.

AMEE
Association for Medical Education in Europe is a worldwide association for all interested in medical and health care professions education - teachers, curriculum developers, deans, administrators, researchers and students.

ANZAME
Is the focal point for health professions education in western Pacific region. Aims to promote, support and advance education in the health professions. Aims to facilitate communication between educators in the health professions. Members are interested in basic undergraduate training, postgraduate vocational training and continuing education. Aims to recognise, facilitate and disseminate high quality educational research in health professions education. Seeding Grants and Awards encourage educators, researchers and students in the health professions.

WFME
The World Federation for Medical Education was founded in 1972 and has its office in Copenhagen, Denmark where the president of the organisation Dr Hans Karle is. The federation serves today with the purpose of being an umbrella organisation for its regional associations for medical education, following the regional structure of the World Health Organisation. Three other institutions related to the field of medical education are also members of the WFME Executive Council.

ACME
The Alliance for CME is a membership organization that provides professional development opportunities for CME professionals, advocates for CME and the profession, and strives to improve health care outcomes.

AHME
The Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME), founded in 1956, is a national, non-profit professional organization involved in the continuum of medical education-undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education. AHME's more than 600 members represent hundreds of teaching hospitals, academic medical centres and consortia nationwide.

Canadian Association for Medical Education

STFM
The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine was founded in 1967 to respond to the needs of family medicine educators. From a small beginning of 105 founding members, it has grown to a membership of more than 5,000 teachers of family medicine.

SACME
The mission of the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education is to promote research, evaluation, and development of effective continuing medical education intended to improve the health of North Americans.

WONCA

BEME
The BEME Collaboration is a group of individuals or institutions who are committed to the promotion of Best Evidence Medical Education through: the dissemination of information which allows medical teachers, institutions and all concerned with medical education to make decisions on the basis of the best evidence available the production of appropriate systematic reviews of medical education which reflect the best evidence available and meet the needs of the user, and the creation of a culture of best evidence medical education amongst individual teachers, institutions and national bodies.

ACMC
The Association of Canadian Medical Colleges (ACMC) was founded in 1943 by the nine existing medical schools as a response to the Canadian government's request to speed up the production of physicians for the war effort. ACMC celebrated its fiftieth birthday in 1993 as a structured organization representing sixteen medical schools and provides the national voice for academic medicine in Canada.

SAPC
The Society for Academic Primary Care: The aim of the Society is to promote excellence in research, education and policy development in general practice and primary health care.

The World Association of Medical Editors
'The World Association of Medical Editors (WAME, pronounced "whammy!") is a voluntary association of editors from many countries who seek to foster international cooperation among editors of peer-reviewed medical journals.'

FACE
FACE, the Forum for the Advancement of Continuing Education, draws its membership from all those interested in lifelong learning and widening participation throughout the UK, whether as policy maker, researcher or practitioner.
