Student humour: the hidden message
Medical students are generally bright and
studious individuals who work hard to digest a heavy educational
meal of basic and clinical science, clinical competence and
communication skills, as well as learning to develop a compassionate
and caring attitude, followed by a 'dessert' of
numerous assessments and examinations. In spite of all these
mental, physical and emotional pressures they maintain their
social and spiritual well-being by taking part in the lighter
side of student life. This is well demonstrated at their formal
entertainment nights, where teaching staff may be present, and
informally at their own social gatherings.
